Job Responsibilities

This opening is for the role of Mechanical Technical Lead Engineer with Handlers team - Global Product Engineering (GPE) function which is part of Lam India Global Hardware Team (LIGHT) organization at Bengaluru. This role is expected to lead mechanical engineering, mechanical systems related activities for the group. This position will be based out of Bengaluru, directly reporting to the leader of Handlers NPD team - LIGHT GPE and closely working with the Engineering & Cross functional teams at Lam India and other regions. This role is responsible for supporting the design, development of mechanical subsystems of handler products. The incumbent will support the new product design, continuous improvement projects product testing and other engineering deliverables.

  • Leads mechanical design projects by contributing to conceptualization, development, analysis, documentation and test/validation of mechanical components, vacuum systems, gas distribution, structural members related to semiconductor equipment. 
  • Selects OEM components like Mechanical Hardware, valves, regulators, MFC, UPC, structural members, electromechanical sensors, vacuum fittings etc.
  • Leads analytical work to characterize and spec new and existing designs, including structural, thermal, vibrations, fluid/gas dynamics.
  • Leads hand calculations for stress, deflection, factor of safety, center of gravity, Free body diagram for static and dynamic conditions. 

Other Job Responsibilities

  • Designs machined components, frames, sheet metal enclosures. 
  • Develops and execute test plans that generate characterization data enough to understand and validate the functional, performance and reliability of the product designed.
  • Develops and presents engineering reports/presentations of excellent quality that communicate design intent, analysis, and validation at design reviews (for product development gates)
  • Reviewing and approving engineering drawings & bill of materials using Engineering Change Management process.
  • Collaborates with electrical, controls, product management, procurement, and manufacturing to successfully execute and deliver the designs.
  • Collaborates with cross functional teams for alpha build and test, HVM implementation.
  • Drives quality Improvements for mechanical systems, driving DFX, CIP & Innovation Projects
  • Provides rapid response and timely resolution to design related production issues encountered during the first build process, product performance and customer field issues.
  • Leads Interactions with PG counterparts in US and influencing the decision making and strategies, need to be available at late evenings for discussions.
  • Travels to global regions like US, Malaysia, Korea, and Taiwan on business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in mechanical with 5 to 8 years of experience or Master’s in mechanical with 3 to 5 years of experience.
  • Hands-on experience in testing, verification, and qualification of mechanical, electromechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in interacting with suppliers, pilot, test, build verification, filed/customer qualification with clear understanding of issues faced, lessons learned and closure.
  • Proficiency in material selection & design optimization through engineering calculation (force, stress, heat, flow, or combinations of these) approach, and to address risks or issues related to Reliability, Cost, Manufacturing, Performance.
  • Proficiency in problem solving tools 8D, PS&DM.
  • Exposure to DFMEA, design for reliability, design for safety.
  • Proficiency in 3D Modelling, Assembly and Detailing using NX or CREO & PLM, PDM
  • Proficient in Designing for cost targets, optimization of design footprints etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in performing hand calculations on structural, flow and thermal components.
  • Proficiency in driving computational modeling calculations for structural, flow and thermal components, setting boundary conditions, reviewing results and design optimization.
  • Knowledge in Engineering Change Management Process.
  • Exposure to Value Engineering would be an advantage.
  • Proficient in SEMI, ASME, ANSI, ISO standards or equivalent.
  • Knowledge in Engineering Change Management Process, SAP, any PLM system.
