SSOE is looking to hire a Mechanical Engineer to join our team. You will have the opportunity to participate in the design, development, and implementation of mechanical building systems for state-of-the-art industrial and high-tech manufacturing facilities for the world’s leading high-tech companies. Our Mechanical Engineers create and work on exciting design-build projects for industrial facilities, semiconductor fabs, manufacturing, and/or similar environments, with a focus on quality, efficiency, and collaboration. The projects will consist of systems that may include: industrial and domestic piping, plumbing, chillers, boilers, HVAC ducting, exhaust, motor control, process chemicals, wastewater discharge, Fire Protection systems and possibly other mechanical building systems. This position will be a hybrid position, requiring occasional onsite work.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed engineering designs, develop process flow diagrams, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), system layout plans, routing, equipment/system sizing and selection, and associated specification write-ups.
  • Responsible for producing technical project plans, specifications, drawings, and models that meet our specifications and client needs.
  • Responsible for creating, influencing, and finalizing designs involving industrial and domestic piping, plumbing, chillers, boilers, HVAC ducting, exhaust, motor control, process chemicals, wastewater discharge, Fire Protection systems and possibly other mechanical building systems.
  • Perform calculations and simulations to optimize system performance and energy efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with industry codes, standards, and regulations in all design work.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.
  • Collaborate with clients and contractors to address project-specific needs and modifications.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure the integrity of design solutions.
  • Works to implement, improve, and expand the selection of new and innovative concepts and/or approaches to solve complex challenges, enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity.
  • Identifies, champions, mentors, and coaches the development of our less experienced staff and looks for ways to elevate the technical and professional expertise of the team.
  • Nurtures and promotes collaboration, communication, strategy, and support within your current team, multidisciplinary teams (Electrical, Structural, Process/Chemical, Architectural, etc.), and inter-company teams to ensure efficiency, quality, and staff resource sharing.
  • Assists all levels of Management in articulating discipline capability requirements in support of strategic and business objectives.
  • Participates in civic, discipline, and professional activities and associations, with technical publication credits as needed.
  • Perform field verifications / site walks to identify, verify, resolve, and incorporate solutions into design packages. May troubleshoot design problems in the field during construction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree from an ABET-accredited school in Mechanical Engineering or technically related discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineering licensure (PE) is required.
  • Experience designing systems that incompass industrial and domestic piping, plumbing, chillers, boilers, HVAC ducting, exhaust, motor control, process chemicals, wastewater discharge, Fire Protection systems and possibly other mechanical building systems.
  • Experience working with AutoCAD (or similar CAD system) and Revit is required. Experience with PIPE-FLO, and/or other systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of chemical process systems control philosophy including P&ID development, as well as pump hydraulics.
  • Knowledge of pipe stress analysis highly desirable. This includes both manual calculations and computer simulations.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and ability to react to shifting priorities to meet business needs and deadlines.
  • Experience performing field verifications and site walks to identify, verify, resolve, and incorporate solutions into design packages. Ability to troubleshoot design problems in the field.
  • Salary Range: $90,000 - $140,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
