Summary
Regional Engineering is a resource that must be utilized in order to ensure regional support of products and services to meet internal and external customer needs.
The incumbent in this role provides department leadership, sets objectives, and is responsible for directing and coordinating activities of engineering department to design, enhance, manufacture, and test components, products, engineering KPIs, and systems for the design engineering department. The incumbent will function as a technical and business resource in areas of CAD design, and oversee day-to-day activities to meet daily, monthly and yearly demand.
The incumbent, within the established framework by the President Global Engineering, will execute the operational plans and processes by providing guidance and supervision to develop a high-performance regional team; one that is self-directed, motivated, innovative, and properly trained to meet the changing requirements of the business.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Works closely with Human Resources to ensure timely hiring and training of staff is completed in keeping with the annual head count plan.
Providing services and support to customers and suppliers
The Engineering Design Manager is responsible for managing the execution of design/CAD processes for all proposed and existing products. The incumbent will ensure the departmental resources are aligned with business goals, independently identify the micro and macro level developmental needs and formulate training plans. The incumbent will provide critical operational information to the President Global Engineering regarding the department budget and expected headcount. Determine and provide necessary training for individuals to ensure a uniform cross section of talent within the group in every aspect of the job.
Key resources: other people and/or capital and equipment
The Engineering Design Manager is responsible for prioritizing, delegating and assigning of work as well as the establishment and review of KPI’s. This includes supervising, meeting ISO standards, being responsible for assigned resources, and acting as a technical resource for team members and other departments to resolve design issues. Manufacturing, Sales and Inside Sales may also set work direction depending on situation and may involve informal meetings with other departments/divisions to resolve issues.
Decision Making
The incumbent of this role has completed extensive training and acquired hands-on experience that will allow him or her to complete troubleshooting of processes in the production of manufacturing drawings, blueprints and schematics. The incumbent of this role will have demonstrated leadership capabilities in previous roles.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, including demonstrated leadership. The incumbent of this role must have a University or FH Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a professional certification coupled with a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The incumbent must have a minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated expertise of CAD design CREO and high level proficiency of CAE Analytics Pro E – preferably from the injection and or Co-Injection molding industry, mold making industry and / or hot runners systems, hot halves and other related products – as well as PDM/PLM Windchill background knowledge and SAP knowledge of the modules related to Engineering. The incumbent should have undertaken formal management training and have a proven track record in the management of a technical department as well as global experience.
A strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and excellent organizational skills are required. The incumbent must be capable of reading and interpreting documents such as technical blueprints and schematics. The ability to evaluate highly technical reports and to communicate effectively with management and external suppliers is a requirement. Ability to mentor and train employees is a must. PMO Program Management and PMP is prefered
Other required level of technical and/or practical judgment to perform the work:
Direct, resolve and delegate issues with the production of engineering shared services design drawings and schematics; contact outside resources for input into maximizing reliable and stable processes; provide design expertise to other departments on production, research and implementation of new technologies; work to level out the workload of existing and proposed design processes to maximize efficiency. The Engineering Design Manager must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing is an asset.
The incumbent will proactively search out opportunities to achieve improvement in KPIs, including methods, quality and product improvements; and implements various continuous improvement programs.

Physical and Sensory demands are representative of an employee working in a fast-paced office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision requirements are good general vision, ability to distinguish between colours, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The work environment is a fast-paced office environment. The noise level is minimal and the environment is climate controlled.
