Role Overview:

The Director of Internal Audit is responsible for developing and overseeing Thrive Market’s new internal audit function. The Director of Internal Audit will play a crucial role in ensuring that our company's financial and operational processes are compliant with relevant regulations, policies, and industry best practices. This role will identify, communicate, and help mitigate risks while promoting a culture of compliance and accountability within the organization. Your ability to effectively communicate complex information clearly and concisely will be critical. The successful candidate will have a strong background in internal audit, risk management, and a deep understanding of industry best practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement, and execute an annual internal audit plan, including the following activities:
  • Perform and document financial and fraud risk assessments
  • Evaluate the design and implementation of controls in place and identify gaps
  • Oversee the testing of controls for operating effectiveness
  • Communicate improvements needed to process owners
  • Partner with leaders throughout the organization to develop remediation solutions and documentation of remediation plans
  • Drive timely completion and verification of remediation activities
  • Oversee the work performed by internal audit consultants and develop a long-term cost-effective staffing strategy for the internal audit function
  • Prepare clear, concise, and actionable audit reports that document findings, recommendations, and proposed solutions
  • Report audit findings, recommendations, and areas of risk to senior management and the audit committee upon request
  • Serve as a point of contact for external auditors on internal control matters, ensuring effective coordination of audit activities and timely resolution of any identified issues or concerns
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior management, providing expert guidance and recommendations on internal control matters, risk mitigation strategies, and process improvements
  • Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders across the organization, establishing yourself as a trusted partner who understands their business objectives and challenges
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest internal audit standards and best practices
  • Maintain the independence and objectivity of the internal audit function
  • Must be willing to travel 15% of the time

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including:
  • 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • 5+ years of experience at a Big 4 accounting or consulting firm equivalent
  • Experience working at/consulting for public or pre-IPO companies
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, risk management, or a related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certified Information System Auditor (CISA) professional certification is required
  • Thorough understanding of auditing standards, techniques, tools, frameworks (e.g., COSO), risk management principles, and corporate governance practices
  • Familiarity with applicable laws/regulations such as SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) is essential
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and audit software (experience with AuditBoard is a plus)
  • Strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to be flexible in a rapidly changing risk and regulatory environment and “roll up sleeves” as needed when priorities or project scopes change
  • Proven ability to meet project budget and timeline constraints, and to identify and escalate issues that may impact project progress

JOB INFORMATION

  • Compensation Description - The base salary range for this position is $160,000-195,000/Per Year. 
  • Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and geographic location. 
  • Total Compensation includes Base Salary, Stock Options, Health and Wellness Benefits, Flexible PTO, and more!
