As an Engineering Manager, you will be using your skills and expertise to manage functional teams through program execution for our products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You will represent the engineering department at all management level meetings. You'll ensure that the engineering design, documentation, and approvals meet the program schedules, are obtained in a timely manner and that engineering hours expended are productive, meeting program goals and budgets. You will own and continuously improve processes and procedures, oversee training of staff and provide technical direction as required.

Sierra Space-based in Louisville, CO with operations in Madison, WI, Durham, NC, Huntsville, AL, Houston, TX, and Kennedy Space Center, FL—designs and manufactures the Dream Chaser spaceplane and other advanced spacecraft, commercial space destinations, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers, and international organizations. Sierra Space is seeking a Sr. Engineering Manager to lead our Mission Engineering and Analysis group. The Sr Engineering Manager – Mission Engineering and Analysis will lead a group of highly technical engineers encompassing skills in Mission Engineering, Mission Systems & Payloads Engineering, Ground Systems Engineering and Mission Mod/Sim and Analysis. As part of the greater Systems Engineering organization, the successful candidate will grow, shape and help to define Sierra Space’s competencies in this area while managing the talent resources to multiple programs. The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience and expertise in Mission Engineering and Mission Analysis as well as experience leading technical teams and personnel. 

Job duties will include:

  • Resourcing and managing personnel needs for all Sierra Space programs in the Mission Engineering and Analysis domains.
  • Ensuring adequate tools, processes and training are in place to enable successful Mission Engineering and Analysis execution.
  • Developing competencies and filling gaps within the Mission Engineering and Analysis domain and providing vision and strong leadership for the growing team.
  • Providing Mission Engineering and Analysis subject matter expertise at the individual and team levels to support a variety of programs, proposals and internal research and development projects across Sierra Space’s growing portfolio.
  • Performing as a Mission Analyst subject matter expert on one or more development contracts.

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in a related discipline and typically 12 or more years of relevant technical experience
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Extensive experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools, analysis and simulation
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
  • An active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance with SCI and SAP eligibility required 

Preferred:

  • Typically 6-8 years of relevant leadership and/or project management experience, especially on system development programs.
  • Master’s degree or higher in related field of study.
  • Functional Management experience (people, processes and tools), including experience hiring, training and mentoring technical teams.
  • Operational employment of and/or domain knowledge in electronic warfare, space domain awareness, electro-optical sensing, and mission communications
  • Experience evaluating sensor or weapon system performance on space-based platforms.
  • Experience with DoD modeling environments (Brawler, Suppressor, AFSIM, EADSIM, ESAMS, etc).
  • Familiarity with preparation and development of project estimates, technical proposals, and program cost and schedule management.
  • Experience with systems engineering management tools, such as JIRA, DOORS, GIT.
  • Practical knowledge of industry standard design principles, to include, but not limited to requirements management, Model Based System Engineering (MBSE).
  • Experience across all phases of the program development lifecycle, from capture through design, implementation and test.
  • Prior exposure to working successfully in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment emphasizing rapid prototyping and fielding of capabilities, with minimal supervision
  • Ability to motivate/work with others
  • Experience performing system astrodynamics modeling and simulation, including analysis, documentation and presentation of results.
  • Ability to derive requirements and design drivers from system modelling and simulation results.
  • Experience working in or familiarity with common industry system modeling tools and languages, such as STK, FreeFlyer, Matlab, Cameo EA, SysML, Python, and C++.
  • Ability to independently research, adapt and/or develop mission analysis tools to solve novel problems.
  • Familiarity with space mission sensors, payloads and ground systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices.
  • Superb communication, writing, and presentation skills with presentation experience to senior decision-making and technical audiences.
  • Great attitude with the ability to collaborate effectively on multidisciplinary teams to solve hard problems in a rapid development environment.

  • Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and steps
  • Frequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterity
  • Rarely lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs.

Working Conditions:

  • Rarely exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.)
  • Rarely exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materials
  • Rarely exposed to loud noises

Estimated Starting Salary Range: 

$159,430.15 - $239,145.23

Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
