Job Description

The Chemical Process Engineer is responsible for the production process of a manufacturing product family. This will include process sustainability, continuous improvement efforts and waste reduction.

In addition, the position will be required to engage external partners to accelerate adoption and deployment of new technology and provide specific recommendations for solutions for safety, quality, cost reduction, capacity, and capability improvements to include in business unit strategic and annual plans.

Air Products Membrane Solutions specializes in the development of hollow fiber membrane separators and systems for onsite gas generation. We commercialized gas membrane separation in the 1970s. Today, we design, engineer, manufacture, and market a full portfolio of PRISM® Membrane Separators, Marine Systems, and Engineered-to-Order Systems. This position is accountable for the following end results:

  • Responsible for product/process sustainment of a product line. Work closely with Operations, Product Development, and Quality teams to release new equipment or components to production. This includes installation and operational qualification, processing material through the line and optimizing recipes for each critical process.
  • Drives Operational Excellence within the manufacturing organization.
  • Be a principal leader in process sustainability working with Operations and other support teams to reduce scrap and waste, target inefficiencies with improvements, and improve production efforts with process upgrades.
  • Provide support for all integration equipment and services, as well as assisting with development of new technology, or breakthroughs, on existing equipment.
  • Provide technical knowledge to customer returns or complaints to identify root cause issues.
  • Review/analyze data and monitor equipment to identify trends and ensure processes are running within specifications. Daily interface with engineering and production providing technical support, supply issue resolution, and equipment stops and starts as required:
  • Understand and apply Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) concepts and root cause failure analysis to open-ended problems.
  • Initiate, implement, and document results of test plans in the process. Successes need to be documented in Process Design Methods.
  • Lead collaborative discussions between leadership and key machine builders to determine chemical capabilities and deliverables.
  • Support project management for design, budget, contractor selection, mechanical & electrical construction, equipment installation, commissioning & qualification of new gas and chemical systems. This will include process and equipment validation of new equipment/processes.
  • Support development efforts as a resource knowledgeable in BOM and part details and general manufacturing processes

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering, with at least 3 years of experience working in customized chemical facilities.
  • Experience working in and supporting Manufacturing Facilities on day to day basis. This will include working in a collaborative environment across departments and communicating results to leadership and management. 
  • Has exceptional project management skills in managing project timelines, interaction with machine builders, contractors, and implementation of chemical equipment into the plant. Experience with the design and implementation of various customized high speed automated systems, especially related to manufacturing and assembly of.
  • Superb communication and organizational skills and must be detail oriented, show initiative, and work in a fast-paced environment. This individual must be capable of working in a team environment with shared responsibilities.
  • Candidates should also possess demonstrated troubleshooting skills, a logical and systematic approach to problem-solving, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
