Position: STET SPIT Supplier Process Engineer – Machine & Casting Commodity

Location: Global SPIT (Supplier Process Ideation Team) Organization

Your challenge

As part of the Global SPIT (Supplier Process Ideation Team) Organization function, the SPIT SPE Machine & Casting Engineer will be the recognized SME. They will be responsible for supporting the optimization and execution of supplier cost reductions related to casting / machining tooling / processes for new / transfer products in a STET SPIT project setting. This includes the improvement / enhancements of existing tooling, as well as coordinating with the appropriate teams to ensure the quality diecast molded products. In addition, they will support the design of diecast components to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM / A /T). Duties to include on site supplier audits, processing improvement readiness reviews, review and understanding APQP–PSW product qualification capabilities. Requires substantial hands-on experience with diecast molding / tooling and machining processes working in a team environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • on site supplier support / coordination of as part of an assigned STET SPIT casting / machining project team
  • review and optimization of supplier production floor practices to support scrap mitigation and product quality improvement
  • review and optimization of supplier APQP-PSW product realization process to ensure PSW approval process is approved first time right / on time to MLD project timeline gate dates
  • support and execution of Global SPIT (Supplier Process Ideation Team) strategy’s to achieve KPI goals
  • deployment of RC /CA to support risk mitigation of processes to achieve cost reductions and achieve TCO goals 
  • support on-site/off-site project supplier quality development through Global SPIT (Supplier Process Ideation Team) technical assessment and quality system audits
  • Perform technical Design / Process review of casting and machining products / processes
  • recommend / enforce adhesion to process design best practices to reduce costs
  • Review internal and external use of casting simulation software to improve quality and cost and mitigate tool alterations and modifications
  • Participate in product cost and quality mitigation / improvement efforts
  • ability to diagnose casting defects and provide corrective actions to reduce TCO
  • Good comprehension of die casting standards (NADCA)
  • ability to provide design and manufacturing support to guide product engineers during advanced engineering & design phases
  • Optimize the supplier concepts and designs with analytical and onsite assessments
  • Review and recommend appropriate craftsmanship and fit/finish through the proper implementation of GD&T.
  • Review / optimize component and subsystem design verification plans and test methods.
  • Proven knowledge and application of engineering fundamentals to root cause and solve complex machine – casting engineering challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a project team setting managing projects with tight timing constraints
  • Good comprehension of die casting standards (NADCA)
  • demonstrated knowledge and ability to integrate state-of-the-art design and manufacturing methods into current product designs.
  • review and optimize materials selection based on their properties and manufacturing limitations

Requirements

  • Experience in design for six sigmas highly preferred
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field of study
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with Aluminum High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) and Machining operations
  • Knowledge of production tool design, aluminum material grades and properties
  • Ability to provide design for manufacturing support to guide product engineers during advanced engineering & design phases
  • Capability to run and analyze casting simulation software using PROCAST / CATIA or similar software or equivalent
  • Knowledge of die cast parts machining and manufacturing methods.
