Job Description

Your role:

We are looking for a Materials Development Engineer with a passion for technology and personal growth to provide materials testing and selection input to medical ultrasound transducer development projects. As part of a multi-disciplined product development team you will be helping to bring leading edge medical ultrasound products to market and help to improve healthcare worldwide.The capability to work closely with Philips Ultrasound key functions that include RA, Research & Development, Manufacturing, and Marketing and with our global BG sites are critical for success.

  • Perform materials compatibility and characterization testing and provide reports to support assigned project teams.
  • Lead Development Teams through materials and adhesive selections to support new product development projects.
  • Evaluate the compatibility of newly identified disinfection and cleaning materials used by customers.
  • Collaborate with Reliability Engineering to develop enclosure, adhesive, and acoustic materials to improve physical and chemical resistance of the new transducer products
  • Complete testing, and generate data and reports for the successful completion of materials biocompatibility and compatibility testing into our Product Development Process.
  • Provide ongoing support for released products through materials testing and root cause analysis investigation.
  • Working with external suppliers to develop capability, identify innovative new materials for improved performance, and deliver final parts that meet material requirements.
  • Fabrication Process/Materials R&D Engineering for new product development initiatives/teams that span the full range of development from feasibility studies to stable production.

  • Minimum of a BS in: Biomedical Engineering, Materials/Polymer Science, Chemistry or other applicable Engineering disciplines
  • Targeting 1+years’ experience, but will consider strong new graduates with the above listed educational degrees/backgrounds
  • Understanding or Experience in Injection Molding, Product Development, or Physical Chemistry Analysis
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process development and tooling development
  • A self-starter, highly motivated with good organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and experience with statistics and Design of Experiment
  • Experience with compact electronic devices (advanced microelectronic packaging a plus)
  • Experience developing and processing materials (composites, adhesives, piezoelectrics, and over-molded products)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interface with customers, vendors and engineers from different disciplines
  • Excellent team player that works effectively with cross functional and cross site teams.
  • Knowledge of ISO 10993 and FDA Guidance Documents for Biocompatibility a Plus.
  • Proficient in using MS Office suite, and Minitab. A working knowledge of MATLAB is a plus.
