Job Description:

Overview:

The incumbent in this position will characterize the mechanical properties of the Monkey Island formation, and create a simulation of the mechanical deformation of the rock because of the injection of CO2. It will require integrating information from well logs, stress maps, laboratory data, and seismic data to construct a mechanical earth model (MEM). The incumbent in this position will also perform coupled flow and geomechanics simulations (using CMG GEM) to assess the potential of fracturing the rock during CO2 injection. The numerical model parameters will be obtained from triaxial rock tests that will be performed using our AutoLab 1500 triaxial rock-testing equipment. Assist with writing reports for the Monkey Island Carbon Storage Project (MICSP) grant and/or papers to be published regarding the research project.
