At Daktronics, we pursue waste elimination through continuous improvement guided by lean principles and endeavor to develop an organizational capability for problem solving. We strive to create robust processes that make our work better and waste-free. This role will provide leadership and project management skills to successfully implement improvements and new equipment/assembly lines using lean concepts. The selected individual will support all processes in Redwood Falls. 

Job Responsibilities: 

People Development:

  • Help identify continuous improvement and problem-solving training needs; present/facilitate identified training for the factory. 
  • Promote continuous improvement. 
  • Help create and sustain positive reinforcement for participation in continuous improvement activities. 
  • Generate communications highlighting progress and success stories. 
  • Collaborate/strategize with factory leadership to develop plans for identifying and then implementing sustainable lean practices/concepts within the factory. 

Improving the Factory Condition: 

  • Use Lean Manufacturing concepts to constantly improve employee safety, product quality, manufacturing capability, and process control. 
  • Recommend process improvement projects to streamline product flow and champion implementation of improvements. 
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting experiments. 
  • Work closely with cross functional teams to develop ways to improve the work and drive out waste. 
  • Assist in the development of manufacturing processes. This work includes developing standard work, work instructions, factory layout, safety considerations, material presentation, control plans, etc. 
  • Help set project objectives, assemble, train, and lead teams through the improvement processes to ensure project objectives are reached. Includes leading, facilitating, and/or participating in kaizen events. 

Support Improvements Between Factories and Across the Organization: 

  • Support implementation of division and factory strategic initiatives. 
  • Travel to remote factories is required, on occasion. 
  • Effectively utilize resources that are not directly under their control to achieve both individual and team goals. 
  • Participate in internal and external benchmarking and keep abreast of emerging technology through professional societies, periodicals, and trade shows. 
  • Work effectively as a team member, work with little supervision and communicate effectively across the organization. Be willing to work additional hours as necessary to complete assigned tasks. Consistently complete quality work in a timely manner. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet internal and external customer expectations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Engineering Technology. 3-5 years Manufacturing experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of electronic assembly, metal fabrication, and Lean Manufacturing experience preferred. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Pro E training or ability to learn. 
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal. Strong organizational and presentation skills, and self-motivation are required. 
  • Physical requirements: 
  • Combination of standing and sitting for the full shift. 
  • Frequently: 
  • Distinguish and identify colors. 
  • Read fine print. 
  • Work around odors (solder, paint, solvent, and manufacturing odor). 
  • Occasionally: 
  • Lift and carry up to 45 lbs. and/or awkward items. 
  • Have a full range of motion required to perform the job functions. 
  • Maintain steady hand-eye coordination. 
  • Reach in all directions and potentially awkward positions. 
  • Ability and willingness to travel. Ability to travel by air and ground. A valid driver’s license and good driving record. Motor vehicle records will be checked. 
  • Effectively exercise discretion and independent judgment.
