POSITION PURPOSE

This Research Scientist/Engineer 3 (E S UAW RSE) position within the Keene Lab supports research projects that are focused primarily on defining the normal structure of the adult brain, on identifying alterations that occur with aging, injury, and disease, including detection of selectively vulnerable cell populations.

The research that the Research Scientist/Engineer 3 (E S UAW RSE) will primarily be focused on include spatial trancriptomics and proteomics to study normal adult brain structure and function, brain aging and neurodegeneration, neurotrauma, and neurooncology. This research will go on to interrogate intracellular and intercellular signaling and biological pathways to identify potential therapeutic targets.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Research Scientist/Engineer 3 (E S UAW RSE) will help design experiments involving spatial transcriptomics and proteomics (20%)

They will supervise implementation of experiments using the NanoString platforms (CosMx primarily, also GeoMx), troubleshoot issues as they arise, oversee maintenance/upkeep of the instrumentation, and interface with vendors (60%).

They will lead application of off-the-shelf immunoassays and lead development of novel assays (~10%).

The research scientist will organize and perform quality control assessments for data generated through these studies, and work with the faculty and scientists to analyze and interpret the data (~10%).

As needed, the research scientist will support other quantitative neuropathological applications in the lab, including digital pathology and tissue-based immunoassays.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, or a related field AND four years of relevant experience, OR Equivalent combination of education/experience.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Spatial transcriptomics and proteomics applications particularly using NanoString CosMx.

Immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, brightfield and fluorescent microscopy, spatial omics/CosMx data management.
