Exciting Opportunity for a Mechanical Design Draughtsperson.

We are searching for an experienced Mechanical Design Draughtsperson to join our busy team based in Renfrew.

As a Mechanical Design Draughtsperson, you will undertake mechanical design draughting activities relating to the packaging of Compressors for combustion air and process aeration duties. Provide mechanical design draughting support to sales/proposals in the formulation of technical proposals for Compressor package. You will be required mechanical draughting support to sales/proposals, operations and after-sales areas of the business and to actively support an ongoing continuous improvement and safety culture.

This is a permanent position working 37 hours per week. We offer hybrid working for this role which will allow you to enjoy the balance of home working and collaboration time with the team in our modern, friendly offices which include free onsite parking.

What Needs To Be Done?

  • Produce Design drawings for innovative technical solutions within agreed timeframes that adhere to Howden standards and meet customer requirements.
  • Provide mechanical design draughting support to design engineers and other project team functional disciplines throughout detailed design project phase.
  • Communicate any identified technical issues to appropriate project manager/ design engineer and offer practical solutions where available.
  • Evaluate/Interface check sub-vendor design drawings/data to assist procurement activity.
  • Actively participate in essential Design and Safety reviews to ensure fitness of purpose of HCO products including consideration for operability, reliability, maintainability, etc. Additionally use such reviews to identify potential improvements of product ideas, resources and design processes.
  • Support Continuous Improvement by optimising efficiencies through reduction of costs and improvement of quality and delivery.

To be successful you must have …

  • Minimum Education: HNC/HND Calibre in a Mechanical Engineering discipline or suitable experience backed up by an appropriate engineering qualification.
  • Proven experience in 3D-Modeling using Autodesk Inventor CAD software (Frame Generator, Tube & Pipe experience desirable).
  • Good communication, presentation and reporting skills.
  • Good problem-solving ability and possess a creative approach for new ideas.
  • Excellent 2-D CAD skills.
  • Good draughting skills to produce arrangement and detail drawings covering various aspects of screw and turbo-compressor and associated equipment manufacture for turnkey projects.
  • Good detail draughting skill relating to Pressure Vessels and Piping Systems and general fabrications and miscellaneous steelwork such as platforms ladders etc.
  • Good team-working skills and ethic.
  • The ability to prioritise and plan effectively.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Sound commercial awareness.

It’s a bonus if you have (but not essential) ..

  • Knowledge of hydraulics or pneumatics systems.
  • Knowledge of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Knowledge of Statutory or Regulatory requirements e.g. PED, Machinery Directive, etc.
  • Knowledge of API standards such as API614, 619, ASME B31.3.
  • Familiarity with Quality, HSE, and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with MRP, ERP systems.
  • Undertake basic supporting calculations, using provided tools (excel spreadsheets etc.).
