Meta’s global network built with cutting edge platforms and technologies is looking for Network Engineers to join the core Optical Network Engineering team. This team is responsible for designing, building and operating one of the world’s largest Optical Networks. Network design, data analysis, and automation are keys to meeting our demands; In this role, you will have a unique opportunity to shape the future of the network, drive into production - at scale - the latest technologies and platforms; you will be responsible for conceiving, developing, and deploying software, network systems and tools that improve reliability and efficiency in our global network.

Network Engineer, Optical Operations Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy and operate Meta’s multi-vendor backbone and edge networks
  • Develop plans that enable production network build, migration and decommission operations
  • Build tools in support of network data analysis and production execution
  • Develop & update documentation, work cross functionally to develop and enhance Meta’s network design & production workflows
  • Analyze data to diagnose and identify root causes to network and tooling issues
  • Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of various system resources
  • Together with your engineering team, you will share an on-call rotation and be an escalation contact for service incidents
  • Partner alongside the best engineers in the industry on the coolest stuff around - the code and systems you work on will be in production and used by billions of users all around the world

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience coding in at least one higher-level language (e.g., Python, C++, Go, etc).
  • Experience in developing or using networking related software, frameworks, and APIs.
  • Experience developing, provisioning, or understanding network device configuration for at least one major vendor or any Linux-based system.
  • Experience with troubleshooting problems as it relates to at least one networking system or platform (IP, Optical, Web servers, load balancers, storage systems etc).

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of ROADM, coherent transponders, and other optical network components.
  • Experience with developing software for building and/or operating large scale networking systems.
  • Experience working on multi-team, multi-geography cross-functional projects, involving documenting and implementing network designs or tools.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, IPv6 and any of BGP, OSPF, ISIS or similar routing protocols.
  • Understanding of Optical layer (L0/L1) traffic reliability configurations using Protection and/or Restoration schemes including pros/cons.
