Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking to hire a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) 2, whom will report to the Diagnostic Laboratories Team Leader (DLTL), and whom will have key responsibilities for supporting patient testing in the Clinical Genomics laboratory. The MLS 2 performs all wet lab work, including Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), which is essential in supporting the operation.

The MLS 2 has the authority, responsibility, and accountability for the accurate performance of laboratory test methodologies. These tests are used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients and the evaluation of the patient's response to treatment. The MLS 2 applies clinical knowledge to achieve accurate clinical test results, which leads to quality patient care outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides patient-focused care in a clinical setting through the accurate performance of routine and complex tests through the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic stages.
  • Performs routine and complex clinical pathology testing and instrument management of lab services
  • Performs qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures, including reagent preparation and appropriate quality control, according to required protocols, with precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner. Responsible for accurately recording results and assuring timely delivery of results.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships as well as physiological conditions affecting test results.

Position Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Either a Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) or Molecular Biologist (MB) Certification with AMT or ASCP
  • Categorical state of Tennessee (TN) Medical Technologist labs licensure or eligibility to obtain categorical license within 120 days of start date
  • Experience with NGS

Consideration may be given to candidates that can obtain certification within 120 days, in accordance with state guidelines.

VUMC, Vanderbilt Laboratory Services, Clinical Genomics Laboratory, located at our MetroCenter campus in Nashville, Tennessee (TN), Fulltime, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm CST
