A Snapshot of Your Day

The On-Site Machining (OSM) Engineer’s Day starts either in an office environment, on-site or in a tooling facility. He is responsible for reviewing project plans and machining requirements of our service projects across the Region Asia-Pacific and provide relevant instructions and guidance to Project Management, Planning Team and Tooling Facility on feasibility, durations and required manpower and tools. The OSM-Engineer will work with the internal stake holders to prepare the relevant work scope for execution on site, also in collaboration with our Head Quarter in Germany. He will check the condition of the mobile machining equipment in the tooling facility, execute any necessary maintenance, adjustments, or repairs for the mobile machining equipment to be ready for site execution, ensure full usability of the equipment and determine required machining consumables and other materials. During on-site execution the OSM-Engineer will program the CNC-machines to the task specific requirements and will be essential to execute the mobile machining in a timely and safe manner within the required quality requirements together with a small team. Throughout the day, the OSM-Engineer is required to communicate with project manager, outage manager, other engineers, and team members to coordinate tasks, resolve technical issues, and ensure that the machining activities align with the overall project timeline and objectives. He may also be required to supervise and/or provide guidance to subcontracted off-site machining activities or execute simple machining tasks on customer or 3rd-party stationary machinery.

Aside from on-site activities, you may be involved in research and development activities to explore new On-Site Machining techniques, or technologies to improve efficiency and quality in your field. You will be working closely with the local management team and relevant Head Quarter departments on training, maintenance and execution strategies taking ownership of the On-Site Machining area of activities for Siemens Energy in Malaysia. Safety and quality are the main drivers throughout your day, ensuring that all machining activities adhere to safety and quality regulations and best practices to minimize the risk of accidents, hazards in the workplace or cost overrun.

How You’ll Make an Impact
