Qualifications

At Expa we’re dedicated to being the best place for entrepreneurs to create and build companies. Expa was founded in 2013 by Uber co-founder Garrett Camp to help bring great ideas to life. We’re builders, founders, and operators ourselves, know the struggles that come with starting a new company, and what it takes to succeed. We support entrepreneurs with more than just funding — we offer a valuable network, office space, and our advice and expertise. Expa Studio combines technical and design expertise, operational support, and capital to turn bold ideas into category-defining companies.

Your role

You will be a Research Analyst (Intern) at a new studio company tasked with researching particular spaces, talking to potential customers & partners. You will be an early team member and will make a significant contribution to the product & company. You will initially be exploring research and financials around enterprise businesses and tying that back to a specific product idea (e.g. understanding business fundamentals of different market verticals across a matrix of investment and operational criteria).

The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, resourceful, independent, have an aptitude for analytics, and find problem solving exhilarating. The key to success in this role is conducting superior analysis, translating that analysis into informed decisions, and then testing those decisions in a live environment. Your recommendations, based on sound analytics, will help determine how we improve our products. You’ll be working with a world-class team who have built and shipped products valued over $8B today.

Your responsibilities

  • Conduct research, compile about industry and customer trends
  • Help identify workflows and processes
  • Apply your expertise in analysis, data mining, and the presentation of data to see beyond the numbers and understand how our potential users will interact with our products
  • Provide analytical support to stakeholders across various fields (Product, Eng, Design, UX, etc.).
  • Create financial and business models, matrices and other basic tools to help team members analyze business needs.

Your experience

  • You are a driven undergraduate (4th year) or graduate student in a quantitative field (Econ, Finance, Math, Business, etc)
  • Openness to new technologies and creative solutions
  • Excel is your middle name. You’re comfortable with crunching numbers and financial models and spreadsheets of data coming out of our research (public and private company data, market data, etc)
  • Previous experience in presenting data in a succinct and user friendly way to a variety of audiences.
  • Passionate data-driven decision making.
  • Strong business judgment and demonstrated ability to probe, drill and analyze elusive problems with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail

This will be a part-time position with a salary range of $25-$30/hr for up to 20 hours per week, which is determined by various factors, including, but not limited to, work experience, skills, location, depth and maturity of our project. We’re open to remote work, but would prefer someone in the LA area so that we can work in person. We’re a small team and we want to try to spend as much time iterating in these early days of the idea. The position has the opportunity to go full-time and remote as the idea matures.
