Our team shape projects that connect communities and impact daily life for millions. Join our Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick team as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer and build new futures. The role can be based from any of our regional offices with travel required to the Maxim Park office in Motherwell.

Role Purpose:

  • Taking a lead on modularisation
  • Providing solutions and strategies, also producing detailed designs with input from other engineering discipline leads,
  • Ensuring that modularisation solution for a project meets spatial and logistics requirement, and advising on installation methodology.

Due to the nature of our projects, all candidates must hold full working rights for the UK, and also be eligible for Security Clearance.

What you'll be doing

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure Inspection and signoff of manufactured modules to ensure modules are built to high standards with all testing and procedures followed
  • Utilise BIM, where appropriate, and the supporting digital tool set to drive optimisation, safety and performance improvement throughout the entire project lifecycle
  • Regular liaison with the wider project team, specialist lifting and manufacturing to ensure one-time delivery and safe installation.
  • Ensure design risks are considered and prepare design risk assessments.
  • Provide strong technical support and identify innovative and robust solutions
  • Develop and maintain relationships with relevant technical consultants and suppliers

Who we're looking for

Key Skillset Required:

  • Broad technical engineering knowledge gained from the design and build of equipment in a range of projects.
  • Solid and proven 3-D modelling skills with a modern package such as Solidworks, Inventor or Revit.
  • Ability to produce drawings to BS:8888 standard for parts and assemblies with bills of materials.
  • Ability to produce hand calculations for mechanical structures and components from scratch using mathematical calculation software packages such as Mathcad.
  • Ability to use Finite Element Analysis to analyse stress states in parts and structures.
  • Previous experience in modularisation engineering, logistics, transport, and installation methods.
  • Strong planning and organisation skills.
  • Focus on collaboration and building relationships with other engineers and wider project teams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and write clearly and succinctly.
  • Detailed knowledge of codes of practice and other regulatory material.
  • Ideally hold experience in a broad range of heavy industries such as petrochemical, power generation and nuclear.
