Responsibilities

Do you enjoy diving into new development and formulating a testing approach in areas like controls, modeling (MIL, SIL, PIL), algorithms and physics? We combine this science and technology with our company vision of building a new category of power that is affordable, reliable, and targeting a net-zero carbon grid.

This is an opportunity for you to join a world-class engineering team: to develop and execute test plans, build and run automation, and ensure the quality for our products. The Linear Generator control algorithms are all novel and bespoke to match Mainspring's fundamentally new form of electricity production. As a Controls Test Engineer, you will ensure the behavior of the system is correct. You will have significant influence over the quality of the product, engage with developers to understand new features and technologies, and create innovative testing solutions within tight requirements to solve complex scenarios with multiple components.

• Develop test plans, test cases, traceability matrices, and automation
• Write technical test approaches, failure analysis, risk mitigation, and maintaining tests
• Ensure comprehensive test coverage and risk analysis

Qualifications

• Experience in controls, models (MIL, SIL, PIL), algorithms, and physics
• Understand real-time hardware as it impacts timing and discretization
• Worked with sensors such as pressure transducers, RTDs, current transducers, and quadrature encoders
• Experience with automation using Python, bash, and C++ on embedded real-time systems
• Have used common test tools like TestRail, GitLab, or similar
• Degree or equivalent in controls, mechatronics, electronics, or systems

The Bay Area salary for this role is $100k-$125k base + pre-IPO stock options + benefits. This position is onsite. The salary will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions based on the experience of the employee.

The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise. New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.
