Responsibilities:

The Institute on Race, Power and Political Economy (“The Institute”) advances research to understand structural inequalities and works to identify transformational ways to promote equity. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Data analysis and visualization of the racial wealth gap for seven American cities 
  • Descriptive data analysis of Color of Wealth studies 
  • Formatting of tables from previous Color of Wealth studies 
  • Synthesis of Color of Wealth data with publicly-available data sources, such as the Census and geographical data on public amenities and redlining 
  • Learn UI/UX principles and work with data visualization firm on design of interactive data visualizations 

WORK MODE

Hybrid/Split – Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. 

SALARY

$22.08 per hour

Start Date: November 20, 2023

End Date: May 15, 2024

Hours Per Week: 10-15 hours/week

Minimum Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled at The New School
  • Ability to work 10-15 hours per week
  • Proficiency with a data analysis application: STATA or R is ideal; Python is OK 
  • We will provide necessary software licenses
  • Demonstrated ability to work with Census data
  • Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and meet deadlines autonomously
  • Detail-orientation and the ability to carefully document your data analysis process 
  • Familiarity with workplace communications tools like email, Excel, and Word
