The Role:

Moderna is a biotechnology company that is pioneering the use of mRNA as a platform for developing novel therapeutics. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Director for our Rare Disease Research department. The successful candidate will report directly to the VP of Rare Disease Research and will play a pivotal role in leading a team of scientists to identify target indications and develop mRNA-based therapeutics for patients in need.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

  • Lead efforts to develop mRNA-based therapies for rare diseases.
  • Work to develop, improve, and optimize therapeutic targets for rare diseases.
  • Lead a team of passionate scientists to accomplish departmental goals.
  • Collaborate across Research organization to design proteins and optimize mRNA sequences.
  • Design, plan, and Execute in vitro and in vivo experiments to select constructs, establish dose response relationships in animal models and cell culture systems.
  • Communicate results clearly and concisely across the Rare Disease Research department and the organization.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or equivalent field.
  • Extensive experience in leading a team in an academic or industrial environment.
  • Proven track record of design and development of strategies for characterizing and improving protein function or targeting.
  • Experience in protein structure, biochemical techniques, and enzyme activity assays preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in people management including building, leading, and developing direct reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong desire to work in the Rare Disease space, implementing creative thinking to develop therapeutic targets for patients in need.
