Job Summary Job Summary The San Diego Unified School District accepts Paraeducator/Instructional Aide applications on a continuous basis for regular monthly and substitute assignments. Paraeducators support the instructor in the daily activities of the classroom. Positions assigned to the Special Education program work with students with all types of special needs including physical and mental challenges. Individuals working in related substitute assignments must indicate long-term assignments in their work history in order to possibly meet the one-year minimum qualification. Information must include an approximate start and end date where applicable along with specific site, job title and job duties performed for each long-term assignment. Answer all supplemental questions The supplemental questions should be answered thoroughly, clearly and concisely as the responses provided (along with the entire application package) will be carefully reviewed to determine which candidates will move forward in the recruitment process. Comments and Other Information Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE): Applicants who do not have 48 or more eligible units of college-level coursework, will be invited to take the Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE). There is a fee of $8 for the exam. Candidates must attach a copy of a U.S. High School Diploma, U.S. High School Transcript, GED, or Foreign Equivalency Certificate to the online application to be admitted to the exam. Eligible List and Substitute Pool: Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and requirements of the position will be placed on an Eligible List for a period of 12 months. The Eligible List will be used to fill vacancies at various sites. Additionally, qualified candidates will be invited to be processed for placement on the Substitute Pool for this position.
