The University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health has an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional to serve as an accountant for a busy and expanding research department. This position requires an individual who is a self-starter, resourceful, and can anticipate “next steps.” The successful candidate will be able to accomplish this, in part, by having a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, being detail-oriented, and being able to plan, organize, prioritize, and execute complicated and continuing assignments without instruction and minimal supervision. The Post Award/Senior Post Award Accountant will provide administrative oversight and guidance to staff and faculty.
This position has direct reporting to the Administrator of EPH Business Operations and dotted-line reporting to the Department Administrator. This position is eligible for partial telework. The candidate selected will be expected to function as part of the department’s administrative team to provide the highest possible support to investigators. A regular on-campus presence is expected.

Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field that required coursework in general acceptable accounting practices (GAAP).
Experience: Two (2) years of accounting or budget experience with at least one (1) year in research administration.
Preferred Experience: Experience managing federal grants and contracts.
Certification/Licensure: Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Other: Related experience may be substituted for education. Financial disclosure reporting required by State of Maryland Ethics Committee.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Outstanding organizational, problem solving, negotiation, and critical thinking skills are required to perform the essential functions of this position. Advanced knowledge of a variety of software programs (eg., Excel, Access, Kuali, Quantum Financials & Analytics, Taleo, and other standard desktop software); knowledge of best practices in research administration; strong interpersonal skills, the ability to function in a team and collaborative environment with staff, faculty, students, and an extended network of professionals.
Senior Post Award Accountant:
Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field that required coursework in general acceptable accounting practices (GAAP)
Experience: Four (4) years of accounting, budget, contract, grant or research administration with at least two (2) years in post-award accounting or other relevant accounting specialization
Preferred Experience: Experience managing federal grants and contracts.
Certification/Licensure: Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Other: Related experience may be substituted for education. Financial disclosure reporting required by State of Maryland Ethics Committee.

Hiring Range:
Post Award Accountant- $58,000-$68,000 (commensurate with education and experience).
Post Award Sr Accountant-$70,000-$76,000 (commensurate with education and experience).
