Who We Are

The Computing Systems Products Group, through The Unified Computing Systems innovative architecture, helps to enable the fully unified data center. We architect the next generation unified computing systems, including compute, storage, network, visualization, and management into a single platform. The team designs, implements, and delivers Computer industry leading computing system products. You will be part of the dynamic and passionate team working on innovative projects.

The Enterprise routing team provides intent-based networking for WAN, LAN, and cloud. Cisco network routers include integrated security, advanced analytics, automated provisioning, and application optimization, to deliver a complete solution.

What You'll Do

Your primary responsibilities will be to design the next generation of air and liquid cooled mechanical chassis that enable scalable network and compute solutions for the Enterprise Routing, and the Unified Compute Systems product groups.

Here are a few key focus areas:

  • Lead/drive innovation in key areas of responsibility.
  • Interact with multi-functional teams for technical discussion.
  • Solve complex system and architecture issues.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, and other cross-functional teams to identify risks, strategically create simulations, plan and conduct validation testing, and deliver objective, data-driven solutions.
  • Manage or perform testing (including airflow, acoustic, thermocouple testing,
  • Perform system optimization for performance and reliability.
  • Design board and/or system-level cooling solutions (for example, heat sinks, fan, etc.) using feedback from thermal simulation.
  • Schedule and manage peer and cross-functional team reviews of your designs.

Who You'll Work With

We have a Global team of mechanical and thermal engineers that you will engage closely with on our next generation of designs. In addition, you will work cross-functionally with HW Engineering, Product Management/Marketing, Product Ops team, Global Supplier Management (GSM), External Vendors/Suppliers, Manufacturing Ops and EMS/JDM partners.

Who You Are

You hold strong fundamental knowledge in Mechanical Engineering and are self-motivated with the ability to work as a team. In addition, you possess strong leadership and communication skills and the ability to communicate solutions at the executive level and influence the outcome.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience in designing complex electronic enclosures.
  • 8+ years of experience in sheet metal and plastic injection molding design.
  • Significant expertise in 3D CAD tool such as Creo or NX.
  • Experience with tolerance analysis and GD&T.
  • Experience in PCB IDF/IDX translation.
  • Cross functional knowledge in areas such as CAD, power distribution, signal integrity, and EMC.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 6+ years of experience or PhD in Mechanical Engineering and 3+ years of experience.
  • Experience with fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics.
  • Relevant experience in design of compute/storage AND or thermal design compute/storage.
  • Expertise in CFD analysis tools such as FloTherm, IcePak, or 6-sigma.
  • Experience with design of liquid-cooling solutions.
  • Experience with compute or networking product design.
  • Experience in FEA for structural analysis of mechanical systems.

This is a hybrid working environment. Candidate must be on site in RTP for 4 days/week.

Why Cisco?

#WeAreCisco. We are all unique, but collectively we bring our talents to work as a team, to develop innovative technology and power a more inclusive, digital future for everyone. How do we do it? Well, for starters – with people like you!

Nearly every internet connection around the world touches Cisco. We’re the Internet’s optimists. Our technology makes sure the data traveling at light speed across connections does so securely, yet it’s not what we make but what we make happen which marks us out. We’re helping those who work in the health service to connect with patients and each other; schools, colleges, and universities to teach in even the most challenging of times. We’re helping businesses of all shapes and sizes to connect with their employees and customers in new ways, providing people with access to the digital skills they need and connecting the most remote parts of the world – whether through 5G, or otherwise.

We tackle whatever challenges come our way. We have each other’s backs, we recognize our accomplishments, and we grow together. We celebrate and support one another – from big and small things in life to big career moments. And giving back is in our DNA (we get 10 days off each year to do just that).

We know that powering an inclusive future starts with us. Because without diversity and a dedication to equality, there is no moving forward. Our 30 Inclusive Communities, that bring people together around commonalities or passions, are leading the way. Together we’re committed to learning, listening, caring for our communities, whilst supporting the most vulnerable with a collective effort to make this world a better place either with technology, or through our actions.

So, you have colorful hair? Don’t care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That’s cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us! #WeAreCisco
