What To Expect

As a Seating Design Engineer within Tesla's Vehicle Engineering Group, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of innovative seating systems from concept to end-of-life. Your work will encompass a wide range of seating commodities, including structures, mechanisms, actuators, cushions, wire harnesses, controllers, sensors, software, and trims, while pushing boundaries for future seating solutions. Collaborating with a dynamic team of experts and polymaths, you will leverage your expertise in seating components such as plastics, foams, mechanisms, and engineering composites to exceed automotive industry standards for safety, usability, and comfort. This role requires a commitment to engineering first principles and a passion for creating seating solutions that redefine comfort and functionality for vehicular occupants.

What You'll Do

Conceptualize, design, and engineer seating system parts and products to meet safety, functionality, and comfort targets

Define problems, set targets, and develop product strategies through concept generation and evaluation

Balance and manage product attributes including aesthetics, cost, mass, schedule, and sustainability

Conduct validation and optimization using prototypes, physical testing, CAE simulations, and design reviews

Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and detailed designs with datum, fixation strategies, GD&T, and DFM considerations

Produce technical documentation for official communication and milestone management

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of seating systems within vehicle architecture

What You'll Bring

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience

Minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical design or related engineering fields

Demonstrated experience in design engineering with a focus on multidisciplinary engineering

Hands-on experience in building or prototyping physical products

Proficiency in hand-sketching as a form of engineering communication

Background in automotive engineering with seating experience preferred but not mandatory

Strong organizational skills for managing schedules and milestones

Evidence of exceptional ability in problem-solving and innovation

Expected Compensation

$91,600 - $234,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
