The Signal Processing Engineering Fellow will apply knowledge of algorithm development in areas such as detection and estimation, classification, tracking and fusion. The Engineering Fellow will lead others in the development of technical solutions to complex signal processing problems that require application of advanced technical principles. The role requires acting independently, as well as working with early career engineers, to uncover and resolve issues associated with development and implementation of radar and/or EO system designs. The Engineering Fellow will guide the successful completion of signal processing development and integration efforts in a technical leadership capacity. The individual will represent the organization as a subject matter expert within the field of signal processing and will interact with senior leadership to plan and execute programs to accomplish long-range objectives, while also helping to shape the strategic direction of technology to accomplish long-term objectives.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Provide technical leadership for RF and/or EO signal processing development activities and develop solutions to complex technical problems often involving multiple subsystem interactions
- Apply knowledge of RF and/or EO seekers to design, integrate and test software algorithms in simulation and real-time embedded systems
- Assist with system design decisions involving trade studies, requirements allocation, and verification methods that involve signal processing
- Devise and implement algorithms and demonstrate performance results, including target detection and estimation, classification and/or track quality.
- Analyze system performance and associated risk assessments in simulation, hardware subsystem test, and flight test environments
- Engage across engineering disciplines to ensure proper implementation and test of signal processing designs and related flight hardware/software
- Pursue advanced research and development funding both internal and external to the company
- Provide guidance, coaching / mentoring and training to other employees across the business within area of expertise.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
Required Education, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering disciplines, natural or physical sciences, mathematics, or physics
- Twelve (12) years of engineering experience in RADAR and/or EO/IR signal processing algorithm development in areas such as target detection and estimation, classification, tracking, and/or sensor fusion.
- Eight (8) years engineering experience in missile components and systems.
- Author of intellectual property (patent disclosures) and/or conference/journal publications and presentations in applicable technical areas within the past ten (10) years.
- Recent experience preparing and presenting technical data and interacting with internal leadership and end-customer community in forums such as detailed design reviews and technical interchange meetings.
- Applied work experience with MATLAB and C++ programming languages (example: candidate is expected to immerse in the C++ implementation of our tactical software and simulations during the first year).
- Must have an existing Department of Defense issued Secret or Top Secret Security clearance
- Must be willing to relocate to Tucson, Arizona (comprehensive relocation package available)
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
Desired Education, Skills and Experience:
- Masters or Ph.D. in aforementioned degrees. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
- Broad signal processing knowledge to understand the system level requirements allocation and dependencies upon RF and/or EO sensor detection and tracking, as well as conduct trade studies and performance analysis at the system level
- Experience assessing RF and/or EO sensor system integration risks through laboratory, ground and flight test data analysis
- Characterization of complex RF and/or EO sensor scenes including target signatures and environmental effects such as clutter
- Proven track record as an effective individual and team contributor including mentoring, excellent verbal and written communications, definition/execution of team objectives and provider of technical solutions to complex technical tasks.
- System level design experience collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines such as software, electrical, mechanical and test engineering
- Experience leading multi-disciplined teams
- Experience with proposal preparation to obtain research funding or new business contracts, spanning technical proposal development, work breakdown structures and cost estimation
- Prior active participation in a mentorship or coaching program involving several junior or mid-level engineers
- Experience in autonomous and collaborative systems, and Hypersonics
- Experience in calibration of EO and/or RF sensors
