Position Summary:

Sony Biotechnology, located in San Jose, CA is seeking a Senior Application Scientist to join their team. The Senior Application Scientist will apply knowledge of scientific principles, products, concepts and practices with focus in the area of flow cytometry and immunology to support a variety of customer inquiries. They are responsible for the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to building content base to support usage and applications of Sony’s flow cytometry product portfolio.
  • Provide technical assistance for key customer / product issue escalations when needed
  • Develop educational content and lead development of content outlines to support training plans for external customers as well as internal field personnel.
  • Participate in in studies to support new applications and technologies to remain at the cutting edge of scientific knowledge.
  • Accurately record pertinent information from customer contacts in Customer Relationship Management system.
  • Summarize trends, technology and publishing for internal and external audience and present technical updates to colleagues and contribute to department meetings.
  • Recommend changes to knowledge databases, website, and other company-managed databases of technical information.
  • Present technical updates to colleagues and contribute to department meetings.
  • Present technical and product information data and related technical content for external audience in the form of white paper, application notes, webinars and podium talks as needed
  • Up to 30% of domestic (some international) travel may be required.

Qualifications:

  • Requires a B.S., B.A. or M.S. in life sciences field with 3+ years hands-on laboratory experience in multi-color flow cytometry operation
  • PhD (or a PhD with post-doctoral experience) preferred but not required
  • Must have 3+ years of hands-on experience with multi-color flow cytometry, including sample preparation, data acquisition, and analysis is required. Cell Sorting experience desired.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.
  • Technical writing experience and/or experience with drafting, reviewing, and editing documentation.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to partner effectively as part of a team to solve problems, negotiate solutions and arrive at a consensus.
  • Prior experience in a customer facing role strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn large amounts of new, complex technical information. 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, to customers and colleagues.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities.
