The Apple Polymer Team is looking for an experienced Laboratory Leader with deep experience in material characterization. This is an individual contributor role.
Key Qualifications
  • Ph.D in Polymer Chemistry, Plastics, or Materials Science (or equivalent)
  • Recognized leader in theoretical and practical understanding of polymer materials and characterization techniques.
  • Significant experience leading a testing laboratory or similar (10+ yrs)
  • Recognized leader in theoretical and practical understanding of polymer materials and characterization techniques.
  • Excellent housekeeping and lab management practices.
  • Experience in organizing, performing statistical analysis and presentation of material characterization data.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary.
Description

• Take ownership of all laboratory operations, including daily schedule of activities, prioritize projects, process work requests and scheduling of instrument maintenance. • Experience with ISO lab certification, documentation, and procedure implementation • Principal of polymer material characterization and analytical testing, such as rheology, DMA, FTIR, TGA, DSC, TMA, tensile testing, creep, fatigue, falling dart impact, chemical resistance testing, optical microscopy, laser interferometry and surface energy measurements. • Collaborate with material engineers, finite element analysis specialists and product designers in order develop new characterization methods in order to better predict material performance in final products. • Work with material engineers to develop test plans for new material investigations, as well as failure analysis. • Analyze test results and create presentations to communicate results to an engineering audience with a range of polymer knowledge from novice to expert. • Develop collaborative relationships with instrument suppliers, material suppliers, external laboratories and universities to learn about new characterization methods and instrument capabilities.
