What To Expect

Tesla is seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineer to support the development and launch of the Optimus Gears manufacturing program. This role is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining specialized manufacturing processes supporting precision gear production. You will transition automated lines from early prototypes through FAT/SAT commissioning and mass production (SOP).

APPLICATION NOTE: You do not need expertise in all areas to apply. We are looking for specialized engineering leaders. The successful candidate will own and lead the process development for any pneof the following technical tracks:

Track 1: Heat Treatment (induction or laser hardening process)

Track 2: Precision Machining

Track 3: Gearbox Assembly

Track 4: End-of-Line Testing

Track 5: Advanced Metrology (CMM programming, inline automated gauging, GD&T, Gage R&R)

Travel expected 25% - Ability to travel domestically and internationally to suppliers as required.

What You'll Do

Process Ownership: Fully own, optimize, and scale the operational performance of your assigned technical track

Design of Experiments (DOE): Structure, execute, and analyze formal DOEs to identify critical process parameters, minimize process variation, and establish optimized baselines for complex parts of the mechatronic systems

Create process flows, PFMEA, Control Plans, and standardized work

Support equipment specifications and supplier RFQs

Participate in equipment design reviews and process validation

Support installation, FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities

Develop process capability and manufacturing acceptance criteria

Improve safety, quality, throughput, cycle time, and OEE

Support pilot builds and production ramp activities

Root-Cause Optimization: Address equipment failure modes, process bottlenecks, and quality variances by utilizing first-principles engineering and data-driven corrective problem-solving methods

What You'll Bring

Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, Metrology, or equivalent experience

Hands-on expertise launching & optimizing equipment within one of the five core tracks listed above

Strong statistical background with proven experience applying Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical process control (SPC), and data-driven optimization

Experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, and Lean Manufacturing

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Knowledge of robotics, automation, and machine vision
