Description

The Engineer will provide technical direction and project leadership on the development of generator sets for Industrial and Mobile applications. The Engineer technical scope includes a working knowledge of thermodynamics, engines, static and dynamic stress analysis as well as an understanding of electrical theory.

This role will coordinate and guide the efforts of CAD Design Analysts, Engineering Analysts and Lab Technicians. Choose materials and components which result in high quality, high performance, and cost-effective generators. This Engineer role will also research new and apply proven technology to designs.

  • Assist in establishing product strategy and requirements with Marketing Product Managers. Use those requirements to write functional specifications establishing design targets.
  • Create project timelines and budgets. Provide preliminary project spending estimates. Work with Product Management team to present project business cases.
  • Provide technical and design direction to CAD Design Analysts and other Engineers. Lead the Engineering team in the development of generator sets to meet performance, quality and cost criteria.
  • Approve the selection of all major purchased components (i.e. radiators, fans, air cleaners, etc.) and support the selection with sound engineering calculations.
  • Work with Accounting, Project Management and Procurement functions to track actual project spending and product costs keeping them within prescribed boundaries.
  • Validate designs through testing to meet performance, reliability, regulatory and durability targets.
  • Support, maintain and update existing product designs.
  • Use project management skills to keep projects on schedule and prioritize activities of team members.
  • Using written and verbal skills, provide concise and timely status reports on the progress of each assigned project. Identify alternative solutions and evaluate relative strengths/weaknesses and risks. Provide comprehensive recommendations, speaking to the business impact of decisions.
  • Lead continual improvement initiatives to streamline internal business processes and support systems upgrades along with continual evaluation of market/suppliers for new technologies for future and carry over applications.
  • Develop and maintain a Technical product roadmap, gaining buy-in from key stakeholders.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program is required with a minimum of 7 years mechanical engineering experience with development of new consumer products or, master's in Mechanical Engineering (bachelor's degree must be an ABET accredited engineering degree) and a Minimum of 5 years mechanical engineering experience with development of new consumer products.
  • Educational courses or experience related to internal combustion engines is required.
  • Demonstrated skills in project management, cost management, mentoring and leadership as well as the ability to successfully work in a team environment.
  • Power generation or genset experience is a plus.

This is a Permanent position based out of Kohler, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $125000.00/yr.
