Job Title: Electrical EMC Test Engineer (2nd Shift)

Job Description

This role focuses on performing RF immunity and emission testing for automotive electronic systems in accordance with international automotive EMC standards. The Electrical EMC Test Engineer develops and executes test plans, analyzes data, prepares technical reports, and supports customers throughout the compliance and certification process. This position offers the opportunity to deepen EMC and RF expertise while working with advanced ADAS hardware, including electric steering and electric brake system modules.

Responsibilities

  • Perform RF immunity and emission testing in accordance with international automotive EMC standards and detailed test procedures.
  • Review test plans and specifications prior to testing to ensure clarity, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Develop and refine test plans, including test planning and specification development, to meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Write clear, detailed technical reports that document test setups, procedures, results, and conclusions.
  • Communicate test results and technical findings to customers both orally and in writing, providing recommendations for compliance and certification.
  • Work closely with Account Executives and Customer Service Administrators to determine customer testing requirements and associated charges for tests and related services.
  • Manage customer projects from initiation through completion, including gathering pre-test information, clarifying technical requirements, and addressing customer questions about upcoming projects.
  • Coordinate and issue work to any subcontractors involved in test projects, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EMC design theory, including shielding, filtering, grounding, bonding, cabling, gasketing, waveguides, and printed circuit board layout methods.
  • Operate and maintain test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, EMC receivers, preamplifiers, quasi-peak adapters, signal and impulse generators, antennas, and oscilloscopes.
  • Ensure all test equipment remains properly calibrated and in good working order, and follow proper operational procedures at all times.
  • Stay current with EMC standards, test procedures, instrumentation, and engineering service capabilities through internal training, external seminars, and review of technical literature.
  • Communicate courteously and effectively with internal and external customers, answering questions, relaying messages, and providing information on standards, test procedures, and technical recommendations.
  • Provide technical guidance on compliance and certification requirements related to EMC and RF testing.
  • Perform additional tasks related to EMC testing and engineering support as assigned by leadership.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience with EMC and RF testing, including RF immunity and emission testing for electronic systems.
  • Proficiency with oscilloscopes and multimeters in the context of EMC and RF testing.
  • Ability to develop, review, and execute detailed test plans and specifications.
  • Strong data analysis skills, including use of CAN tools for signal monitoring and interpreting test results.
  • Knowledge of automotive communication networks, particularly CAN, to understand interactions between modules such as electric steering and electric brake systems.
  • Working knowledge of EMC design principles, including shielding, filtering, grounding, bonding, cabling, gasketing, waveguides, and printed circuit board layout methods.
  • Experience operating EMC test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, EMC receivers, preamplifiers, quasi-peak adapters, signal and impulse generators, antennas, and oscilloscopes.
  • Ability to ensure and verify proper calibration and functioning of test equipment.
  • Strong written communication skills for preparing technical reports and documentation.
  • Effective verbal communication skills for interacting with customers and internal teams about standards, procedures, and technical issues.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned projects while managing multiple tasks and deadlines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with automotive EMC standards and international automotive EMC test procedures.
  • Background in compliance and certification testing for electronic or automotive products.
  • Familiarity with ADAS hardware, including electric steering and electric brake system modules.
  • Experience collaborating with customer service and account management teams to define test scopes and pricing.
  • Exposure to project management activities such as coordinating subcontractors and managing multiple customer projects.
  • Participation in internal training sessions, external seminars, or self-study to stay current with EMC standards and technology.
  • General bachelor’s degree qualification, with preference for electrical or computer engineering disciplines.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role based in a laboratory and test facility environment in Plymouth. The position operates on a 2nd shift schedule, working five days per week from 15:00 to 23:00. You will work with a variety of EMC and RF test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, EMC receivers, preamplifiers, quasi-peak adapters, signal and impulse generators, antennas, oscilloscopes, and related instrumentation. The environment involves hands-on interaction with automotive electronic modules, including ADAS hardware for electric steering and electric brake systems, and frequent use of CAN tools for signal monitoring. Work is performed in a structured lab setting that emphasizes safety, proper equipment handling, and adherence to standardized test procedures. Dress is typically consistent with a professional laboratory setting, where appropriate attire and any required personal protective equipment support safe and efficient testing activities.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
