Job Description

As a Packaging Engineer, you will lead the design, review, approval, optimization, and qualification of blister packaging formats including PVC, PVDC, Aclar®, aluminum-aluminum (Alu-Alu), and cold-form structures. You will develop packaging solutions that meet product protection, stability, child-resistance, and tamper-evident requirements. Collaboration with Sales, Quality, Regulatory, and Manufacturing teams will be essential to ensure packaging designs align with product, regulatory, and customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, review, and qualification of blister packaging formats.
  • Track tooling portfolio in-house and review for new RFQ applications.
  • Serve as the SME for blister packaging equipment and processes.
  • Support selection, installation, commissioning, and optimization of blister packaging equipment.
  • Troubleshoot packaging line issues related to forming, filling, sealing, print quality, and reject systems.
  • Drive OEE improvements, scrap reduction, and throughput optimization.
  • Author and review technical documentation including URS, FMEA, protocols, reports, SOPs, and work instructions.
  • Ensure compliance with cGMP, FDA, EU GMP, ISO, and internal quality systems.
  • Support regulatory submissions, audits, and inspections related to blister packaging.
  • Evaluate and qualify blister packaging materials, suppliers, and tooling vendors.
  • Conduct material compatibility studies, seal integrity testing, and stability support.
  • Manage technical communication with external vendors and contract manufacturing partners.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior packaging engineers, technicians, and project teams.
  • Lead cross-functional teams for packaging-related projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for complex blister packaging challenges.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in pharmaceutical or regulated packaging engineering with a focus on blister packaging.
  • Hands-on experience with thermoforming and cold-form blister processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of cGMP, FDA regulations, and packaging validation.
  • Proven experience authoring and executing validation documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience supporting global regulatory submissions (FDA, EMA).
  • Knowledge of child-resistant and packaging standards.
  • Experience with serialization, vision inspection, and track-and-trace systems.
  • Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma certification.

Work Environment

This role is based in an on-site manufacturing environment. The position requires hands-on engineering experience with blister packaging, ensuring close interaction with manufacturing processes and equipment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Boston, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $62.50/hr.
