Job Title: EE Test Engineer

Job Description

The EE Test Engineer will lead hardware validation activities for complex embedded systems in a lab-centric environment. This role focuses on developing and executing board- and system-level test plans, performing detailed measurements using lab instruments, and validating both low-speed and high-speed interfaces as well as power subsystems. The engineer will work hands-on with PCBs, schematics, and advanced computing platforms while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure comprehensive test coverage and robust product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Define and develop comprehensive board-level and system-level hardware test plans for complex embedded systems and advanced computing platforms.
  • Execute test plans using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, CAN tools, data acquisition systems, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Perform detailed measurements on PCBs and hardware subsystems, including high-speed and low-speed signals, and accurately document all measurement results.
  • Create clear, detailed test reports and present results, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders in a structured and understandable format.
  • Collaborate closely with electrical engineering, firmware, component suppliers, and test automation teams to ensure complete test coverage and alignment of validation activities.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex system-level hardware and software issues on advanced computing platforms, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Validate low-speed interfaces such as I2C, SPI, and CAN to ensure reliable communication and compliance with design specifications.
  • Validate high-speed I/O interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, clocks, and DDR, including signal integrity checks and performance verification.
  • Validate DC-DC converters and power subsystems, including power-up and power-down sequences, to ensure stability, reliability, and compliance with design requirements.
  • Use probing skills to measure and debug high-speed and low-speed signals on PCBs, ensuring proper signal quality and timing.
  • Contribute to board bring-up activities by executing initial tests, identifying issues, and working with design and firmware teams to resolve them.
  • Support fault injection testing and system-level validation to assess robustness and failure behavior under various operating conditions.
  • Develop and maintain basic Python and bash scripts to automate test execution, data collection, and reporting where appropriate.
  • Communicate test status, issues, and risks clearly and professionally to project teams and stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain lab equipment, follow established lab procedures, and ensure that test setups and documentation remain organized and up to date.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in testing complex embedded systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with PCBs, including test and measurement for board-level hardware.
  • Proficiency with lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, CAN tools, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Demonstrated experience validating low-speed interfaces such as I2C, SPI, and CAN.
  • Demonstrated experience validating high-speed I/O such as PCIe, Ethernet, clocks, and DDR.
  • Experience validating DC-DC converters and power subsystems, including power-up and power-down sequences.
  • Comfort and proficiency with lab equipment, including probing high-speed and low-speed signals and validating power regulators.
  • Basic experience with Python and bash scripting for measurement, automation, or data analysis tasks.
  • Ability to solve complex system-level hardware and software issues on advanced computing platforms.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to document results and create detailed test reports.
  • Ability and willingness to work on site in a hardware lab environment five days per week.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven knowledge of circuit analysis and waveform analysis for debugging and validation.
  • Experience with board bring-up, including initial hardware validation and issue identification.
  • Experience with fault injection testing and system-level validation for robustness and reliability.
  • Experience collaborating with electrical engineering, firmware, component suppliers, and test automation teams.
  • Familiarity with test planning, bug tracking, and structured defect resolution processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to test execution and documentation.

Work Environment

This role is based in a hardware lab environment and requires working on site five days per week. The EE Test Engineer will spend most of the time in the lab performing hands-on measurements and validation activities on PCBs and advanced computing platforms. The work involves extensive use of lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, CAN tools, spectrum analyzers, and data acquisition systems, as well as working with test benches, cabling, and probing equipment. The environment is highly collaborative, with frequent interaction with electrical engineering, firmware, component suppliers, and test automation teams to ensure thorough test coverage and timely issue resolution. The position emphasizes structured test execution, careful documentation, and adherence to lab procedures in a professional, technology-focused setting.
