Job Title: Senior Accountant, Fixed Assets & CAPEX

Location: San Rafael, CA (Hybrid, 2 days/week Tuesday and Thursday)

Type: Contract

Compensation: $58-65/hour DOQ

Contractor Work Model: Hybrid (2 days/week onsite)

Hours: 8-5, M-F

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to manage the full lifecycle of fixed asset and CAPEX accounting in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong technical accounting expertise who can ensure accuracy, compliance, and process efficiency across capital and operating expense activities.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, transfers, impairments, and depreciation.
• Maintain the fixed asset subledger and ensure alignment with the general ledger.
• Execute monthly close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, roll-forwards, and variance analysis.
• Review asset classifications to ensure compliance with US GAAP and internal capitalization policies.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to fixed asset-related requests.
• Partner with project managers to track capital project spend and ensure proper capitalization versus expense treatment.
• Monitor Asset Under Construction (AUC) balances and drive timely project capitalization and closure.
• Support CAPEX forecasting and depreciation planning in collaboration with FP&A and business partners.
• Perform monthly OPEX purchase order reviews, accrual preparation, and variance analysis to ensure accurate expense recognition.
• Monitor open POs and receipts to validate timing of expenses and identify items requiring cleanup or closure.
• Strengthen internal controls and support SOX compliance, including documentation, testing, and remediation.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance reporting, data integrity, and workflow efficiency.
• Contribute to ERP or system enhancement initiatives impacting fixed asset and CAPEX accounting.

Qualifications

Must-Have

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of accounting experience, including at least 3 years focused on fixed assets and/or CAPEX.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, including capitalization policies and depreciation methodologies.
• Advanced Excel skills with experience handling large datasets.
• Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar platforms.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
• High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

Nice-to-Have

• CPA or CPA-eligible.
• Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or other capital-intensive industries.
• Familiarity with SOX controls, compliance, and audit processes.
• Experience with project accounting modules or fixed asset subledger systems.
