The Role and Impact:

The CPU Microcode Team within Intel’s Silicon & Platform Engineering organization is seeking talented engineers with a passion for x86 architecture, microarchitecture, and low‑level firmware development.

As a CPU Microcode Design Engineer, you will design, implement, and optimize microcode features for Intel’s next‑generation CPU microprocessors. You will work in a highly collaborative, fast‑paced environment where innovation and curiosity drive every decision.

Your contributions will have a direct impact on the performance, reliability, and capability of Intel CPUs used worldwide.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Defining and developing innovative Architecture and Microarchitecture for Intel's next generation CPU Microprocessor.
  • Analyzing existing developed code, understanding and gathering new requirements, developing new algorithms or changes required, documenting for review and communication, creating and negotiating a development plan, writing the code, and debugging that code for functionality and performance requirements.
  • Interacting and communicating with Architecture, Logic design, and Validation teams to achieve their coding goals.
  • Supporting this code through tape-in and future steppings, either through patching or code rewrites.
  • Being a member of the Microcode team, you candidate will be also reviewing others' code and helping to improve group productivity and accuracy.

Qualifications:

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, /Computer Engineering or a related field with 6+ years of experience. Or a Master's degree in the same field with 4+ years of experience or PhD in the same field with 2+ years of experience.

Your experience describe above must be in the following:

  • Firmware development in CPU microcode.
  • Computer Architecture and/or Micro Architecture techniques.
  • RTL logic design using Verilog and debug using industry standard tools.
  • Linux shell, Perl, or Python scripting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience simulator development using C++ x86 assembly programming.
  • Experience with performance analysis tools and techniques.

Annual Salary Range for jobs which could be performed in the US: $141,910.00-269,100.00 USD

The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific compensation range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Work Model for this Role
