Position Title: Application Engineer
Position Location: Uxbridge, Massachusetts Headquarters
Position Type: Hybrid
Compensation: $85,000 - $130,000 (Compensation depends on skills, knowledge, education, and experience)
Position Snapshot: The Applications Engineer provides technical support and solution development for automation customers, including troubleshooting, product selection, and programming. It involves delivering product demonstrations, conducting training, and supporting automation projects both remotely and onsite. The position works closely with sales teams to align technical solutions with business goals and build strong customer relationships.
About you: You’re a collaborative engineer with 5+ years of experience who enjoys working with people as much as solving automation and motion control challenges. Your positive style helps customers and teammates trust your support. With experience in motion control, drive commissioning, and PLC/HMI programming, you combine technical skill with clear communication to help others confidently use Lenze solutions.
A day in the life:
Product Support
- Provide Advanced troubleshooting and support for complex automation systems and customer applications
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop customized solutions based on customer feedback
- Develop and maintain relationships with key customers, acting as the primary technical contact
- Assist in the preparation of detailed technical proposals and sale strategies
- Mentor Applications Engineer I on best practices
Engineering services
- Parameterize and commission Lenze drives (inverters/VFD/servo) per customer specifications.
- Develop and commission customer PLC and HMI programs per customer specifications.
Product Demonstration and Training
- Develop product demonstrations and training sessions for internal and external customers.
- Lead OEM trainings
Sales and Customer Relationship Management
- Provide sales support to field sales via phone, email, virtual meetings, and sales visits.
- Identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling based on customer interactions.
- Contribute to achieving sales targets by aligning technical solutions with business goals.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers.
Travel
- Ability to travel up to 25%, including overnight stays and occasional weekends.
Requirements
What you will need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automation, Robotics, or related Engineering field.
- Experience reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting customer wiring
- Experience in motion control systems, PLCs, HMIs, and industrial communication protocols:
- Motion control: Electric motors, VFDs, and servo systems.
- PLC development: Codesys preferred.
- Industrial programming languages: IEC 61131-3 (Ladder, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram) preferred.
- HMI development: Codesys and web-based preferred.
- Industrial communication protocols: EtherCAT, Ethernet-IP, ProfiNet, Modbus, IO-Link preferred.
- Strong mechatronics background, integrating mechanical, electrical, and software systems
- Skilled in machine commissioning and creating application/machine specifications
- Familiarity with Windows-based software installation and setup
- Understanding of machine safety standards and project management practices
