Job Title: Hardware Test EngineerJob Description

We are seeking a skilled Hardware Test Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hardware testing, coupled with expertise in Python, Linux, and networking protocols. This role involves executing and monitoring test procedures on various hardware components, performing data analysis, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure product performance meets specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Execute established test procedures on hardware components and systems, such as PCBs, embedded systems, and prototypes, following detailed instructions.
  • Monitor tests at internal and external labs to ensure accuracy and capture relevant data.
  • Perform initial debugging and failure analysis to identify the root cause of hardware and software anomalies during testing.
  • Utilize standard lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers, to troubleshoot issues.
  • Set up mechanical tests using aluminum extrusion, hand tools, and scrappy test setup techniques.
  • Analyze test data and results to confirm product performance against specified requirements.
  • Document and log defects with organized notes, including steps to reproduce, observed behavior, and system configuration.
  • Prepare test reports summarizing progress, execution status, and key findings.
  • Communicate effectively with Design, Firmware, and Mechanical Engineering teams regarding test results and potential issues.
  • Maintain the organization and readiness of the testing environment and equipment.
  • Assist senior engineers with re-testing fixes and verifying defect resolutions.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of testing processes and procedures.

Essential Skills

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or similar.
  • Proficiency in Python for task automation, data analysis, and testing frameworks.
  • Experience with test equipment such as thermal chambers, vibe tables, liquid chillers, power supplies, electronic loads, and DAQs.
  • Multidisciplinary experience in ME/EE, with expertise in one and knowledge of the other.
  • Experience in a Linux environment and with networking.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages, such as Python and MATLAB, for data processing and test automation.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols like I2C, SPI, and UART.
  • Prior experience in a lab setting or hands-on hardware projects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with build automation.
  • Experience in thermal vibe testing.
  • Familiarity with automotive communication protocols, such as CAN and CAN-FD.
  • Knowledge of the test and operation of brushless motors.

Work Environment

The work environment is dynamic and collaborative, involving the use of various test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, thermal chambers, and vibe tables. The role requires working in a Linux environment and interacting with cross-functional teams, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. Dress code and facility conditions are typical of a technical laboratory setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Mountain View, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $73.00/hr.
