GENERAL SUMMARY

To provide mechanical design and process engineering support on dairy, brewery and food projects to the Engineering, Project Management and Sales activities of the company.

Working in a team-based environment, consisting of Process Engineers, Automation Engineers, Project Managers & Sales Staff, the applicant will be responsible for design leading to successful execution of major capital projects, of up to 18 months duration.

The position will include sales support, office-based design, and will extend from time-to-time to consultancy, site service visits and commissioning periods on customers sites.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

  1. Designs, develops, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery allocated within the allocated budget and timescales in accordance with contractual requirements and in line with current SPX designs.
  2. Produces both design and manufacturing drawings (Line diagrams, Plant and Pipe work Layouts, Pipe work Isometrics, Material take-offs, Foundation drawings, Equipment drawings, Fabrication drawings).
  3. May oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment such as centralized heat, gas, water and steam systems. Undertakes site surveys and works on site as required.
  4. Evaluates mechanical products to determine their cost-effectiveness and efficiency. Prepares purchase requisition instructions by interpreting specifications and quotations, etc.
  5. Applies basic/standard fundamental engineering principles, theories, and concepts to techniques, methods and practices of scientific/technical field.
  6. Handles well- defined or routine problems, using standard practices and procedures with direct supervision.
  7. Contributes to the completion of routine technical tasks. Collaborates with team to generate new ideas for innovative business growth.
  8. Correctly interprets information contained in the contract and develop detailed designs to satisfy technical and commercial requirements of the contract.
  9. Supports the sales department as required
  10. Work is closely supervised. Follows specific detailed instructions.

SKILLS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Educated to Higher National Diploma level or equivalent in Chemical, Food, Mechanical or similar Engineering / Food Technology.
  • Sound knowledge of Process Plant Layout and pipe work design for Processes and Services for the Hygienic Industries.
  • Use of AutoCAD and 3D drawing packages for drafting purposes.
  • Ability to work from outline basic design data and information and develop into fully production type drawings suitable for manufacture and/or site installation.
  • General knowledge of the design requirements of the Hygienic Industries.
  • 0–2-year experience with food or chemical industry plant designing.
