Job Title: Electronics Design Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking an Electronics Design Engineer who will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of advanced electronic systems used in motor controls, instrumentation, and industrial machinery. This role offers the opportunity to focus on either power/drive electronics or analog/control systems, based on your experience. You will have the chance to support cutting-edge energy technology, with significant visibility to engineering leadership and the Department of Energy.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement control and drive electronics for complex machinery and equipment.
  • Develop detailed design packages, perform testing, and troubleshoot system performance.
  • Apply analytical methods, simulations, and modeling tools to validate designs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams on high-impact projects.
  • Ensure designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards in a highly controlled environment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and technology innovation within the organization.

Essential Skills

  • Master's Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience, ideally 10+ years.
  • Experience with either Motor Controls Design or Analog Design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in industrial or power electronics design (Master’s or 12+ years of experience preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing environments, embedded systems design, or R&D projects.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems ranging from low-voltage DC through three-phase AC.
  • Proficiency with common engineering tools such as PSPICE, MATLAB, Simulink, and OrCAD.
  • Solid experience in hardware design, circuit analysis, and system troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards (UL, IEEE, NEC, ANSI, OSHA, or NUREGS).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. with the ability to obtain or hold a DOE “Q” security clearance.
  • Active DOE “Q” or Top Secret clearance preferred.
  • Experience in the nuclear, defense, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Experience in power electronics, electric motor design, or embedded software development.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical challenges with innovative, practical solutions.

Work Environment

The position is based in an on-site manufacturing and office environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Oak Ridge, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $130000.00/yr.
