The Role

Shape the Future of Vehicle Assembly at General Motors!

We’re seeking a forward-thinking Material Strategies Processing Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our General Assembly Manufacturing Engineering – Material Planning & Strategy team. • Build business cases for warehousing and automation investments.
  • Define and standardize material planning metrics across North American assembly plants.
  • Support launch teams and provide technical guidance during Manufacturing Vehicle Build events.
  • Integrate Lean Manufacturing, Global Manufacturing System (GMS), and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) into future programs.
  • Ensure safety and ergonomic compliance; provide on-site support during major launches.
  • Drive best practices and performance metrics across General Assembly operations.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Material, Industrial, Packaging) or equivalent.
  • 4–6 years of experience in supply chain planning, material flow engineering, launch execution, or automated material handling systems.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, FactoryCAD, and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and lead cross-functional initiatives.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% and support program development and launch execution.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master's in supply chain management, Operations Management, Logistics Operations, Robotics, Engineering or Equivalent
  • Working level experience at a Vehicle Assembly Plant
  • Familiarity with GM systems: Manufacturing General Operations (MGO), Plant Production System (PPS), Global Enterprise Production Information and Control System (GEPICS), and Scheduling Execution Platform (SEP).
  • Project Management Professional Certification
