High school diploma or GED. One year of experience assisting in a biology laboratory is required. Completion of 30 semester credits to include 8 semester credits in Biology may substitute for the required experience. Must possess a valid driver s license.
This position will be assigned to the Mosquito Control Division of the Department of Solid Waste Management. The incumbent in this position will assist in the collection of data for research projects and with mosquito and virus surveillance programs with the Mosquito Control Research Section. The incumbent in this position will be responsible for identifying native and invasive mosquito species found in Miami-Dade County, processing of mosquito samples for virus screening, rearing mosquitoes for insecticide resistance testing and assisting with community outreach efforts. Additionally, this position entails operating laboratory equipment and following laboratory protocols.
