Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Accountant to join our team in Kafue, Zambia. As the Chief Accountant, you will play a crucial role in overseeing our organization's financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strategic financial management.
- Lead and manage all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance
- Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure financial integrity and compliance
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, collaborating with department heads to drive financial performance
- Manage tax compliance and reporting, ensuring adherence to Zambian tax laws and regulations
- Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and implement recommendations for process improvements
- Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
- Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to senior management to support decision-making
- Implement and maintain robust financial systems and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Ensure compliance with local and international accounting standards, as well as regulatory requirements
- Preparing and/or reviewing daily, weekly and monthly reports in accordance with the reporting calendars and Finance Policy Manual and ensuring that all reports are submitted on a timely basis and accurate.
- Finalize P&L and ensure necessary journal entries are created for corrections.
- Verify and upload financial reports and ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Professional accounting certification (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent)
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior role
- In-depth knowledge of Zambian accounting standards, tax laws, and financial regulations
- Strong technical skills in financial reporting, analysis, and management accounting
- Proficiency in ERP systems, accounting software, and advanced MS Excel skills
