Piping designer engineers will be responsible for providing CAD drawings for maintenance and construction design packages. Designers will perform walk-downs and inspections of process piping and utility piping systems in support of nuclear and non-nuclear projects. Design activities involve the preparation of conceptual design and title II output documents including P&IDs, piping drawings, construction drawings, utility drawings, bills of material for cost estimating and man-hour estimates. Experience with 3D modeling using Bentley software is desirable.
Candidate must effectively and cooperatively work as a team member of an integrated project team. Engineers will routinely perform walkdowns in the existing plant facilities in order to generate design documents.
The piping design engineer shall be responsible for interpreting, organizing, and executing assignments and engineering design for process piping and utility piping systems in support of nuclear and non-nuclear projects at CNS. A strong candidate for the piping designer position should have experience with design in systems such as potable water and fire-protection supply systems, gas supply systems, acid and caustic fluids, brines, cryogenics, steam and condensate, hot and chilled water systems, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and vacuum systems. Additionally, experience with pipe routing, piping component selection and ASME B31.3 and B31.1 Code Compliance is required. Additional experience in 3-D modelling is desired.
Engineers will need the ability to plan, self-perform tasks on a project. These include, but are not limited to, development of detailed project scope, design time-lines, functions and requirements, design basis and criteria, design schedule and tracking, project engineering budget, research, design review, inter-discipline design coordination, design approval, design change control, approval of contractor technical and material submittals, and field verification of construction compliance to design. Skills are to include coordination of engineering efforts as a design team member, project management, and construction, start-up, project controls, customers and control owners. Technical knowledge of related engineering systems, applications of engineering and construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computers; knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to mechanical engineering; and ability to effectively communicate in the oral and written word.
A design engineer should be knowledgeable in industry piping codes such as ASME, ASTM and AWWA along with their associated quality programs such as ASME NQA-1 and 10CFR 830.120.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
