As an Associate Quantum Engineer at OQC, you’ll play a hands-on role in advancing our cutting-edge quantum research. Working alongside experienced team members who lead our research projects, you’ll contribute to experiments, data analysis, and problem-solving that directly influence the development of our quantum technologies.
You’re someone who has already built a strong foundation in scientific or engineering research, whether through academic projects or early industry experience. You’ve worked on technical problems, handled research equipment when needed, and communicated your findings clearly to peers. You’re comfortable producing scientific plots, carrying out quantitative analysis and tackling complex concepts with curiosity and rigour. For this role, focused on QPU and resonator design—you bring a natural strength in theory, supported by experience in modelling or analysing scientific systems, and an interest in how this translates into real quantum hardware. While hands-on experimental work isn’t essential, a willingness to engage with practical aspects of device development is a bonus, helping you contribute across the wider design and research
You'll play a key part of our research team - working with Rich Bounds (Head of Processor Innovation) and his team, you’ll be:
In this role, you’ll help drive our quantum processor development by applying clear scientific thinking, strong organisation and effective communication. You’ll use Python (or similar languages) for data analysis and automation, and draw on your grounding in linear algebra, scientific data analysis and quantum information science to make sense of experimental results. Your ability to plan, prioritise and communicate clearly will help keep projects moving in a fast-paced research environment.
You may also bring—or be keen to develop—hands-on skills such as experimental measurement, debugging, sample preparation, RF/DC wiring, or working with cryogenic and vacuum systems. Behaviours like adaptability, attention to detail and good monitoring practices will support you as you contribute to simulations, experiments, device characterisation and team-wide research discussions.
Tech stack: Python (NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib), Jupyter; exposure to one of the following: HFSS, COMSOL, Sonnet. Cryogenic systems and RF/DC instrumentation.
Helping us accelerate the journey toward practical, scalable quantum computing - are you ready to grow with us?
