Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Operating Room Director and or charge nurse and under the direction of professional nurses, the OR Service Assistant is responsible for assigned nursing tasks, processing of supplies, maintenance and transportation of equipment and supplies and housekeeping duties in the operating room suite.

Job Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned.

Assist with housekeeping duties ie: OR room turnover, cleaning of durable medical equipment, cleaning, reprocessing instruments.

Clean other areas as necessary.

Transport patients.

Pull supplies for cases.

Maintain, clean autoclaves, and perform BI's and/or other tests on autoclaves or sterilization equipment.

Assemble, disassemble, move OR equipment.

Maintain and order supplies in cupboards in rooms.

Displays competency for the OR Assistant, Level I role as evidences in the annual performance appraisal following FHN PRIDE Standards.

Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent with six to six months experience.

Populations Served:

While performing this job, the employee does not care for patients in the following age groups.

  • Neonate: <30 days
  • Infant: <1 year
  • Early Childhood: 1 year and <5 years
  • Late Childhood: 5 years and <13 years
  • Adolescent: 13 to <17 years
  • Middle Adult: 30 to <60 years
  • Young Adult: 17 to <30 years
  • Older Adult: >60 years
  • Serves patients in areas other than patient care.
  • No responsibility to treat or care for patients.
