The Financial Analyst supports biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, diagnostics, and healthcare research organizations by analyzing financial performance, evaluating investment opportunities, and providing insights that guide strategic decision-making. This role blends traditional financial analysis with specialized knowledge of scientific R&D, regulatory pathways, clinical trials, and industry-specific market dynamics.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Develop, maintain, and analyze financial models (P&L, cash flow, balance sheet, valuation models).
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal stakeholders.
- Forecast revenue and expenses based on product pipelines, market trends, and clinical development timelines.
- Track budget vs. actuals and support variance analysis across research, clinical, and commercial units.
Industry & Market Analysis
- Evaluate life science market trends, competitive landscapes, and regulatory developments.
- Conduct benchmarking against peer companies in biotech, pharma, and healthcare sectors.
- Support pricing, reimbursement, and market-access analyses for new products.
R&D and Clinical Program Support
- Analyze costs, timelines, and financial impact of research programs and clinical trials.
- Assess potential ROI for pipeline assets, licensing deals, and portfolio prioritization.
- Collaborate with scientific, clinical, and regulatory teams to translate technical data into financial implications.
Investment & Strategic Support
- Assist with valuation of partnerships, M&A opportunities, licensing agreements, and fundraising initiatives.
- Prepare materials for executive presentations, investor decks, and board meetings.
- Perform scenario planning and sensitivity analyses for strategic decision-making.
Required Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
- Strong preference for candidates with experience or education in Biology, Chemistry, Biotech, Biomedical Engineering, or related life science discipline.
Skills
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; familiarity with FP&A or investment analysis tools.
- Ability to interpret scientific and clinical data in a business/financial context.
- Strong analytical thinking, detail orientation, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills, with ability to explain financial insights to non-financial teams.
- Knowledge of biotech/pharma development cycles, FDA regulatory pathways, and clinical trial phases.
Compensation: $80,000 to $90,000 annually
Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
