The Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) Department at North Dakota State University (NDSU) invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice position in the area of Robotics and Automation. This position will be a 9-month annual appointment, with renewals subject to continued funding. Responsibilities will include supporting NDSU’s land-grant mission of teaching and service. Specifically, the successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in the area of Robotics and Automation with particular focus on practical and hands-on experience working with automated systems. The position is 80% teaching and 20% service, with primary responsibilities that include teaching and mentoring students in developing, programming, operating, troubleshooting, and repairing standard industrial robots and automated systems.
The IMSE Department offers bachelor’s degrees in Industrial Engineering and Management and Manufacturing Engineering, as well as MS and PhD programs in Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering. The department will begin offering a new engineering technology bachelor of science degree in Robotics and Automation in Fall 2026. The department currently has six faculty members (two tenured, three tenure-track, and one Professor of Practice), plus one instructor and several staff and adjunct faculty. The IMSE department serves approximately 110 undergraduate students and 13 graduate students.
The programs leading to the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management and the Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering degrees are accredited by the Engineering

9-Month Position - Fixed term appointment
Hiring Range:
Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Demonstrated expertise in application of automated systems
Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching automated systems, mechatronics, robotics and automation
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student population
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with curriculum development
Experience with course and program assessment
Demonstrated ability to engage students in hands-on, problem-based learning
