JOB SUMMARY

The Child Care Teacher is responsible for overall executive functioning of the classroom through planning and

providing educational opportunities to infant/pediatric age groups, developing routines for classroom management,

and delegating tasks to staff assigned to their classroom. As the primary contact for parents, the Child Care Teacher

should establish good rapport through positive methods of communication, and support parents by providing mutual

care practices for children.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Directs Daily Educational Operations of the Classroom

  • Developing classroom schedules and routines (such as preparing class for meals, rest time, clean up, toiletry duties).
  • Promoting growth by planning developmentally appropriate activities that offer children a balance and variety of educational experiences.
  • Delegating tasks/responsibilities to Child Care Workers assigned to their classroom, as appropriate.
  • Preparing for classroom substitutes

Coordinates Environment

  • Coordinates a physically and emotionally safe classroom/center environment.
  • Developing and implementing classroom behavioral management of techniques including reinforcing behavioral expectations.
  • Teaching, modeling, promoting appropriate practices in the area of safety and health.
  • Meeting the needs of each individual child.
  • Constant supervision by sight and sound.

Classroom Documentation

Maintains current and accurate documentation for classroom including, but not limited to:

  • Attendance records (to be turned into billing weekly).
  • Lesson Plans (to be reviewed by Education/Training Coordinator weekly).
  • Incident/Accident reports.
  • Daily reports (for children under 2 years of age).

Special Projects

  • Performs special projects as assigned by the Director of Childcare.

FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS

Working Conditions: Child Care Center. Noisy/busy periods of time. Stressful situations at times. Must be on-site at the St. John's Health

campus or other facilities to fulfill the responsibilities of this role.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Four to eight hours of the day spent standing and walking. Intermittent sitting, often on

the floor with children. Must be able to move from sitting on floor to standing several times per day.

Internal & External Contacts: Parents/Families (who work in various departments in the hospital), All hospital departments, visitors, community

agencies, sales representatives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

Required: High School Diploma

Preferred: Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.

Minimum Work Experience

Preferred: One year of documented experience working in a childcare setting.

Required Licenses: CPR Heartsaver AED Certification required within 90 days of hire.
