Job Title: Donor Nurse

Job Description

The Donor Nurse plays a crucial role in determining the acceptability of first-time and returning donors under the guidance of the Medical Director and/or Center Licensed Physician(s). This role involves assessing donor suitability following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in line with FDA guidance and regulations. The Nurse also reviews normal donor laboratory tests and refers any abnormal findings to the Physician for further evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical examinations for new, returning, and annual donors, excluding those receiving red blood cell immunizations.
  • Administer and explain the Plasmapheresis Informed Consent and related donation program consents.
  • Evaluate donor understanding of high-risk activities through the administration of the AIDS Bulletin.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and complete donor records in accordance with cGMP.
  • Review normal donor laboratory work as per SOPs and refer any abnormalities to the Licensed Center Physician(s).
  • Oversee and approve staff training in medically related areas.
  • Ensure donor reviews are conducted according to SOPs.
  • Provide immediate care and assessment for donor reactions.
  • Review all medical incidents, record appropriate DAE, and manage incidents as necessary.
  • Complete and manage Medical Incident Reports and conduct follow-ups with donors following SOPs.
  • Administer employee Hepatitis B immunizations and donor immunizations as applicable.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Current RN, LPN, or Advanced EMT license in the state the Donor Center operates.
  • CPR certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in a blood or plasma collection center preferred.
  • Annual GMP training.

Work Environment

The position is based in a Plasma Donation Center, where long periods of standing and bending are required. The environment fosters a team/family atmosphere, with staff becoming familiar with repeat donors.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Laurel, Maryland.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $52.00/hr.
