The Project Accountant is responsible for managing and reporting financial information related to specific company projects. This role ensures that all project accounting processes, budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses are completed accurately and on time. The Project Accountant works closely with project managers, finance teams, and other stakeholders to ensure the financial integrity and success of each project.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate project accounting records, including budgets, forecasts, and actual expenditures.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual project financial reports.
  • Monitor project costs against budgets and investigate variances.
  • Ensure revenue recognition aligns with company policies and accounting standards.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Assist in preparing project budgets and updating forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support project managers in tracking and controlling project expenses.

Billing & Invoicing

  • Prepare and issue client invoices based on project milestones or contract terms.
  • Track receivables and follow up on outstanding payments.
  • Coordinate with procurement and subcontractors to ensure timely and accurate billing.

Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure all financial transactions comply with company policies and relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP or IFRS).
  • Assist with internal and external audits of project financials.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support schedules for audit and compliance purposes.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with project managers to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
  • Liaise with the finance department to ensure accurate posting of project transactions.
  • Communicate project financial performance to stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • CPA or equivalent certification preferred (optional depending on role level).

Experience:

  • 2–5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in project-based industries (construction, engineering, IT, consulting, etc.).

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with accounting software
  • Strong Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Familiarity with project management systems

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Compensation: $80,000 to $90,000 annually

Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
