Job Description

This Mechanical Design Engineer role supports the Power Electronics and Motors team within the Electrification division, focusing on advanced technologies for electric motors. It is an exciting opportunity for candidates with strong mechanical design experience and a passion for innovation, in a fast-paced, design-intensive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design electric motor components including wire winding, lamination, and steel sheet dimensioning using CREO.
  • Support new design concepts and collaborate with a team of experts with over 15 years of motor design experience.
  • Conduct preliminary pro-mechanica/CREO analysis before passing tasks to the advanced analysis team.
  • Collaborate on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) as needed.
  • Work with rotating components and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
  • Research, design, develop, manufacture, and test various mechanical devices such as tools, engines, and machines.
  • Implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Work will be primarily in-office, especially during the onboarding phase, with potential field visits for part procurement later.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical.
  • 0-2 years experience in rotating hardware design, including components such as transmission, engine, motor, gearbox, crankshaft, compressor, turbine, powertrain, drivetrain, bearings, cast shafts, and gears.
  • Proficiency in CREO CAD modeling, including concepting, modeling, and detailing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with CFD and FEA.
  • Ability to produce prints with GD&T.
  • Experience in tooling design and hydraulic circuit design.
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM) experience.
  • Candidates with Electrical Engineering degrees and strong motor design/CREO experience will be considered.
  • Experience with cast shafts, bearings, and motor shafts is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with gear systems is advantageous but not required.
  • Strong communication skills.

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily in-office, especially during the onboarding phase, with potential for field visits during part procurement. The facility is equipped with the latest design technologies and offers a dynamic atmosphere for innovation and professional growth.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of East Peoria, Illinois.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $33.00/hr.
